Country: The Netherlands

Release Date: 4 May 1992

Genre: Funk / Soul Style: Funk • Minneapolis Sound

Overview   Spirit was issued as a Netherlands‑only commercial single in May 1992, taken from Martika’s second album Martika’s Kitchen. Arriving around eight months after the album’s release — and following the fourth and final commercial single Safe In The Arms Of Love — Spirit became a late‑cycle European release.

The track was written, produced, and largely performed by Prince, continuing his deep involvement in Martika’s 1991–92 output. The Dutch 12" contained five remixes, making it the most expansive configuration of the single.

A UK 12" promo was also issued, containing two exclusive mixes, but the track received no commercial UK release.

As a promotional‑only title in the UK and a limited commercial release in the Netherlands, the single was not eligible for chart entry.
