🟣 The Story
Lovesexy Live 1 and Lovesexy Live 2 document the full 9 September 1988 Dortmund concert, originally broadcast live across Europe. Granada Television (UK) and RAI Network (Italy) secured a $2 million deal for worldwide radio and television rights, excluding the USA and Japan. Negotiations extended to China, the U.S.S.R., Australia, and parts of South America.
Dutch production company ID‑TV filmed the concert, with Egbert van Hees directing. Billboard reported that Prince personally selected van Hees from a shortlist of two directors after being impressed by his work filming an after‑hours Hamburg performance.
The home‑video release arrived on 19 April 1989 as two VHS cassettes. Confusingly, Vol.1 contained the latter half of the concert, while Vol.2 contained the first. The show was later reissued as a single 127‑minute cassette and on laserdisc.
