Prince’s early Minneapolis groove gets its first standalone spotlight
— SUMMARY
“Just As Long As We’re Together” was released on 21 November 1978 as the second single from Prince’s debut album For You. Issued only in the United States, the single featured an exclusive edit of the track that has never been released elsewhere. The B‑side, “In Love,” was also taken from the album.
A promotional 7" included both mono and stereo versions of the edit, while a 12" promo offered an extended disco mix of the song, paired with a disco mix of “Soft and Wet.” These early releases highlight Prince’s emerging identity as a self‑contained writer, producer, and multi‑instrumentalist.
Commercially, the single reached No. 91 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart but did not enter the Hot 100. Today, the promo editions — especially the disco mix — are prized by collectors for capturing Prince’s earliest studio experimentation.
