The upcoming sci‑fi epic based on Andy Weir’s 2021 bestseller. The film arrives in theaters on March 20, 2026, and the new trailer finally gives audiences a full look at Rocky, the alien who becomes Ryan Gosling’s unexpected partner in a galaxy‑wide crisis.

The trailer dropped with a splashy Los Angeles stunt — Gosling tossing a neon‑green football through the donut hole atop Randy’s Donuts — before cutting to the film’s central relationship: a stranded astronaut and an alien who discover they’re chasing the same answers.

Set to Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U,” the trailer highlights the emotional core of the story as Gosling’s Ryland Grace uses a translation device to decode Rocky’s language, assign him a voice, and form a bond that becomes essential to their mission.

Grace, a middle‑school science teacher with a doctorate in molecular biology, is recruited to help solve a crisis: every star in the galaxy is dying except one. As he jokes in an earlier clip, “I put the not in astronaut,” but the stakes soon pull him into a last‑chance mission to save Earth.

The new footage also revisits Rocky’s first appearance — a tap on the glass that mirrors a key moment from the novel — and expands on their shared goal: saving their respective solar systems from collapse.

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a screenplay by Drew Goddard, the film reunites the creative team behind The Martian. The cast includes Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub. Previous trailers have featured music cues from Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times” and Oasis’ “Champagne Supernova.”

With its blend of high‑concept science, emotional storytelling, and a soundtrack that now includes Prince, Project Hail Mary is shaping up to be one of 2026’s most anticipated releases.
