David Bowie’s "I Can't Explain" (Trident Studios Version – Take 2) backed with "I Can't Explain (Trident Studios Version – Take 3)", was released as a 7-inch vinyl single in the UK by Parlophone Records (catalog number DBICANT24) on May 31, 2024.

Parlophone Records presents this track as the third release from "David Bowie Rock ‘n’ Roll Star!," a 5CD and 1 Blu-Ray Audio box set. The collection delves into Bowie's journey from February 1971, covering the creation of Ziggy Stardust and the recording of the legendary album "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars."

‘I CAN’T EXPLAIN’ (TRIDENT STUDIOS VERSION – TAKE 2) is a cover of The Who’s classic 1965 debut single. It was produced by David and recorded at Trident Studios in Soho, London, on the 24th of June 1972. This high energy version of the track has remained undiscovered for over 50 years.

A year later Bowie would record the song again at a much slower tempo with co-producer Ken Scott for his PIN UPS album. Other unreleased highlights on ROCK ‘N’ ROLL STAR!, include an unheard version of the deep-cut classic ‘SHADOW MAN’, and ‘LADY STARDUST (ALTERNATIVE VERSION – TAKE 1) performed in a much lower register to the released version.
