Alice Cooper Group’s "Teenage Lament '74" backed with "Hard Hearted Alice", was released as a 7-inch vinyl single in the UK by Warner Bros. Records (catalog number K 16345) on January 4, 1974 it was featured on the Muscle of Love album. Written by Alice Cooper and Neal Smith, and produced by Jack Douglas and Jack Richardson, it featured backing vocals by Liza Minnelli, Ronnie Spector, and the Pointer Sisters.

The single reached No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart, No. 16 in Ireland, No. 43 on Germany’s Media Control Chart, No. 48 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and No. 89 on Australia’s ARIA Chart. A Record World review praised its “clever lyrics” and Cooper’s standout vocals. The promotional video, filmed at the Academy of Music in New York on December 1, 1973, depicted the band in a humorous prison-break scenario, performing the song before being recaptured by police (played by the band in costume). The vintage Yugoslavian sleeve featured a dynamic live performance shot with distinctive typography.
