Alice Cooper’s School’s Out, originally released in 1972, was reissued as a newly remastered deluxe edition through Rhino/Warner Bros. Records on June 9, 2023 (catalog number R2 695500). The 1972 album peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. Produced by Bob Ezrin, it features essential tracks like “Luney Tune,” “Alma Mater,” and “Gutter Cat vs. The Jets,” the latter an homage to West Side Story with lyrics from “Jet Song,” earning Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim a songwriting credit. The deluxe edition includes rarities like single versions of “School’s Out” and “Gutter Cat vs. The Jets,” plus previously unreleased tracks: an alternate version of “Alma Mater” and an early demo of “Elected” (later featured on 1973’s Billion Dollar Babies). A live Miami concert from May 27, 1972, recorded weeks before the studio sessions, showcases standout performances of “Halo of Flies,” “School’s Out,” and “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,” highlighting Cooper’s harmonica skills. The vinyl edition recreates the original desk-shaped sleeve, complete with non-flammable panties, addressing 1972’s controversy over the original flammable underwear.
