DOES A group have to have a so-called "stage act" to make any progress in the eyes of the anti T. Rex population?

Sure T. Rex just go on to a stage and let rip with their own kind of music, but isn't that what they're supposed to do, instead of doing stupid and childish things like Alice Cooper, Slade and the Sweet for sheer promotion?

THERE I was watching the Whistle Test nice and peace-fully, when suddenly Bob Harris whispered those two magic words "Marc Bolan." I leapt to the edge of my chair hung on every inspired utterance, tingled to the heavenly sound of that Rolls-Royce voice then I rushed to the bathroom to be sick.
