I Saw Her Standing There was released by the Elton John Band Featuring John Lennon And The Muscle Shoals Horns backed with Whatever Gets You Through The Night and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, the releases official title was 28th November 1974

Elton John contributed to John Lennon's track "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night". Lennon vowed to join Elton for a live performance at Madison Square Garden if the song hit number one. When it did, Lennon honored his pledge on Thanksgiving night, 28 November 1974. They performed "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", "Whatever Gets You thru the Night", and "I Saw Her Standing There" (primarily penned by Paul McCartney). This song is one of only two Lennon–McCartney compositions to reach number one in the US by an artist other than the Beatles. The other is "A World Without Love", recorded by Peter and Gordon in 1964.

When introducing "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," Elton John expressed his belief that it is "one of the best songs ever written." The song "I Saw Her Standing There," sung by Lennon and credited to the Elton John Band featuring John Lennon, was first released in 1975 as the B-side of Elton John's "Philadelphia Freedom" single. In 1981, these three live songs were released on an Elton John EP dated 28 November 1974. In 1990, they were included in the Lennon box set, and in 1996, they appeared on the remastered version of Elton John's "Here and There" album. Elton John mentioned that he never includes "'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' in his concert sets because it reminds him too much of John Lennon, similar to 'Empty Garden'." It was part of his regular repertoire from 1974 to 1976 and occasionally until 1998. The song was also featured in the 1976 musical documentary "All This and World War II" and the 1995 remaster of "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy."
