David Bowie's performance of "The Jean Genie" was originally recorded at the BBC Studio 8 on 3rd January 1973 and broadcast the next day. Footage of Mick Ronson and David Bowie was thought to be lost. Eventually, a cameraman named John Henshall realized he had the tape, which he had saved because he designed the unique fisheye Telefex lens used in the clip. After Henshall realized the BBC had destroyed their original footage, he unearthed his and it was re-aired for the first time in nearly 40 years on 21st December 2011. After his time with BBC's Top of the Pops, Mr. Henshall, now retired and in his 70s, went on to film professional music videos for groups such as Blondie, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Kate Bush, Spandau Ballet, Roxy Music, and Queen.
