The single "Nobody's Fool / L.A. Jinx" by Slade was released it did not make it onto the UK Singles Chart, breaking their streak of 17 consecutive hits since 1971. However, it did reach number 3 on the UK Star Breakers Chart.

When "Nobody's Fool" was released as a single in the UK, Sue Byrom from Record Mirror & Disc described it as "Slade at their best" and predicted it would be an "instant hit". She considered it "one of the best singles Slade have released in ages", highlighting its "bright and bouncy" nature and how "very catchy" it is "from the first hearing".[6] The Shepherds Bush Gazette commended Slade for "really having come up with a winner this time". They noted that the band successfully combined the mellow sound previously only heard in their slower songs with a lively, up-tempo rhythm. The screech and crash-bang-wallop are gone, replaced by an irresistible toe-tapper with a tune that will have you singing along by the second chorus.
